After years of watching Engineering students labor under the weight of the Engineering Stress Culture Dr. Harly Ramsey knew that she had to innovate and find a way to support her student’s success. She reached out to her colleague, Dr. Julie Loppacher whose work at the Kortschak Center for Learning and Creativity is rooted in skill development, and together they began researching the impact of bringing 5-minute self-regulation techniques into to the college classroom.
The 5-Minute Project is a simple tool with big impact — and it just might be the strategy your students need to get unstuck, stay motivated, and build real academic momentum.

Testimonials
5-Minutes That Made a Difference, What Students are saying about the 5-Minute Project:
“I don’t think you realize how much this can help someone’s life”
“My biggest takeaway from this was that even 5 minutes of a break to check-in on yourself can make a difference”
“There is nothing a student loves more than a caring professor!”
“I appreciate that it was acknowledged by faculty-you understand how stressful it is…this helped me perceive my professor differently”
“The inter-generational recognition of my mental health struggle was incredibly powerful”
“I feel like the current curriculum doesn't really teach people how to take care of their anxiety; I feel like it actually filters out those people that haven't properly learned to take care of their mental health in a way. So, I believe that these techniques should be taught more, especially in engineering where people can get stressed easily”
Faculty are seeing the difference — here’s how the 5-Minute Project is transforming student engagement and motivation in their own words
“Great presentation for community college faculty.”
“Very interesting can’t wait to try in my classes and with my kiddos at home”
“I loved it! This is very helpful for my first year experience seminar!”
“The workshop opened my eyes to 5 minutes can make a big change in the students and for me. We, faculty get stressed and having this time with our students to decompress and get ready for class can be beneficial for bonding and community building”
“Wonderful! So insightful and one of my favorite presentations of the conference!”
